For my son’s birthday, he received a book from my Aunt and Uncle called Hopalong Jack and the Blue Bunnies…
it was a very cool gift, because it was signed by the author, which, odd tidbit about me – I am pretty obsessed with. Whenever I can, I try to get a signed book for myself or my children..I just think it is a special thing to have.
Well, I had to share this book with you – as you may have realized, we love animals around here, and “country” settings. I also am a HUGE blueberry lover (remember my blueberry muffin recipe?!) – and well, not to spoil the plot of the book but…blueberries assist in making blue bunnies!
My son was absolutely fascinated by the book – the illustrations were amazing, and he looked at every detail in amazement, and the story gave him such giggles! The book was so well written, and it kicked off a great discussion about what makes us unique, and the special qualities of each of our family members. If you would like to know, he is unique in our family because he has a blue cast on his leg now.
I researched the author, Jeri Landers, a bit (seriously – we are obsessed with the book!!!!), and wanted to share some of the items I found with you:
www.jerilanders.com - Here is the authors page; we had a VERY fun time looking at her “Gardens” Page. If you have an artist in your house, check out the Fun Art for Kids – I can’t wait until my little guy is old enough to try this!
Her blog has some awesome artwork and videos of her farm and animals too. My son had a great time watching the animal videos!
We are going to be ordering The Journey of Busky Bushy Bottom next over here….
Hope you enjoy both the book and the great activities!

You should check out the Children’s Literature Festival at Keene State College in NH sometime. Every year they have five or six authors of children’s books come speak and they sign their books throughout the day. It’s pretty awesome!
How awesome are you, Courtney! I am definitely going to look that up!!!
I am so happy your little guy enjoys the book so much, and since he is an animal lover, he and I could be great pals. Long ago, my son broke his arm, he too, chose a blue cast. Now is all grown up, is a doctor, and puts those blue casts on other little boys arms!
