As you may have read in my post a couple of weeks ago, my son has a broken leg which slowed him down quite a bit. I have been very busy trying to keep him busy and entertained, especially as he missed school for a couple of weeks (which he LOVES). Outdoor time is limited as it is so super hot out there, which makes it massively uncomfortable with his cast.
One of the biggest suggestions that friends and some sweet MMB readers (who I have never met but were SO kind to email me!) was the iPad. This is incredibly embarrassing to admit, but I am not an iPad user at all. My husband uses it a TON on his 2 hour commute on the train, so it isn’t at home much for me to play around with. I also just use my phone or my computer – I didn’t think I really needed an “in between” gadget. So, I was getting these recommendations in, but the first thing I had to figure out was how to download stuff and use it. Thanks to google, and my son though, I learned pretty quickly .
I wanted to pass along some of the apps we have enjoyed over here. I did feel like we could get a bit out of the free apps, but if we tried it and he liked it, I would buy them. It was a way to guarantee that annoying pop ups would not keep coming our way, and he wouldn’t order something crazy if I went to put in laundry or something.
I am excited to pass along our favorites, and some of the suggestions that we have not gotten to yet, but are loved by other MMB readers.

Toy Story Read Along: We are Huge Toy Story fans in this house – and who can resist reading, coloring, the songs, and of course, the movie clips!

My son could play Thomas & Friends: Day of the Diesels forever….honestly. Similar to Toy Story – there are many features, but the puzzles are the one that he loves the most!

Somedays, all you have to say is the word dinosaur, and it makes my son happy. ABC Dinosaur Stickers Art HD is cute – but I think that he is growing out of it a bit.

thanks, always looking for new apps to entertain the girls!
Awesome list!! I can’t wait to show my son jake and the never lands. His head might soon off
!
Kelly – true story, I was sitting on the couch next to my son editing the post on my computer. He was reading some books, and all of a sudden, his little finger started jabbing at my computer on Jake’s picture (he has an iTouch computer at school and the iPad which he “borrows”) – I had to download this last night, with the promise that he could play it tonight!!! I hope your son enjoys it. We are pirate freaks (in addition to dinosaur, animals, and more…)
yay! So happy to help! Anything to help momma’s entertain their little ones
Oh and Lindsey – come back to tell us if there are any that they liked! Feel free to share your faves
My son likes cookie doodle, lets them be very creative and make/decorate cookies. There is also donut doodle and other foods too.
We have Gina the giraffe and while its funny and makes my son laugh you cant do much without having to spend more money. Im often tempted to delete it for this reason.
Thanks so much for the suggestions – will definitely have to check those out. GOod to know about Gina…I hate the ones where they make you keep spending money.
cant wait to try Jake!!!
This is a great post. I have a 2 year old and almost 4 year old. They love the iPad–favourite games include Dora, Cars and Angry Birds lol
Helpful. When did your son start playing with the iPad apps?
