1) What time am I supposed to pick him up?? By Meghan
I was recently preparing for a trip (sans kids) and was VERY stressed & excited about getting some new cute outfits to wear, so I dropped the kids off at school & headed to the mall… I had to pick my son up at 11:30, and the mall doesn’t open til 10, so I knew my window of shopping time was going to be short, but for some odd reason I had in my head that I didn’t have to leave the mall until 11:45 (yes, again, I am supposed to pick him up at 11:30?!)! So, I got a few things and then found myself just wandering around the mall from about 11:15 on, thinking I needed to kill some time when my cell phone rang at 11:38,it was my mom… as I answered it, in sheer panic I asked her, “what time am I supposed to pick up Bradley?”… she knew it was 11:30… I was a total wreck… I hung up immediately & called the school, of course using an excuse that I was in a meeting that ran long!! Luckily it all worked out and I just ended up being at the end of the car pick up lane… but really I don’t think I’ve ever had such an immediate headache!! It was just one of those moments that I just completely lost my brain!!
2) What Baby?!?! Veronica
The epitome of mommy brain? The time (or 2 or 3) shortly after CJ was born, that I went to pick up my oldest from daycare, and she very innocently asked me, “Mommy, where’s CJ?” OOOPS! About face….run to the car, there he is, sound asleep in the bucket. The good news? I NEVER actually left the house without him, but I very definitely left the car without him; thankfully never to do anything longer than grab his sister from school, who clearly wasn’t affected by mommy brain, and always asked about his whereabouts.
3) Let me just use that little Dora toothbrush for a minute…Kerry
It was a weeknight, probably around 11, and I was getting ready for bed. I went into the bathroom and started my nightly routine. It wasn’t until I was almost finished brushing my teeth that I realized I wasn’t hearing the sound of my electric toothbrush and thought the battery had died. At that point, I pulled the toothbrush out of my mouth and realized the reason I didn’t hear that whirring sound I’m used to was because I had grabbed my daughter’s Dora toothbrush!!
4) Hm, that shirt might not be quite right…Christine
So, my mommy brain moment was when my second was about 7 or 8 months old. It was a school day for both kids and we were doing great on time and I was thinking I may actually make it to work by 9. I walked into the first classroom to drop off the little one and I noticed one of the teachers staring at me. Of course, still having to lose lots of baby weight, I was really upset because I didn’t feel that fat that day. After leaving that room, and about the head across to the next classroom, another one of my little man’s teacher’s came out and whispered in my ear, “Christine, I think your shirt is on inside out.” AHHH! So that is why the other teacher was staring at me. Needless to say, before I dropped off the second child I ran into the closest bathroom and turned my shirt the right way while my 3-year-old kept asking why I had put the shirt on the wrong way in the first place!
5) Date night mismatch! Nora
My mommy brain moment came after exhausting routine mommy day. Not technically involving my little ones, but indirectly in a way
My mom was visiting that weekend, the toddlers were sleeping, and the kitchen was clean. It was about 11:30 (record timing) and the hubbs thought it sweet to ask me out on a date, right then and there. He offered a romantic getaway to the only place he imagined to be open on a Saturday night… Wal-Mart… Haha! Too tired to give a sarcastic response involving better choices like maybe a nice cocktail at a tucked away local spot, I smiled and agreed. Besides, I wouldn’t have to spend any time or energy getting extra pretty.
We got to our destination, threw a few things in the basket, and continued browsing as we caught up with our individual lives after what felt like years since we took a breath. I eventually forgot about my tiredness, and was glad we had the opportunity to head out with each other while the girls were home safe, tucked in bed.
About an hour in to our trip, I looked down towards my feet. Out came a gasp, and then followed the most horrific feeling of embarrassment I had ever experienced. It was like one of those dreams where you’re standing in a high school hallway alone, the bell rings, and you look down only to realize you’re totally naked… Well, maybe not to THAT extreme, but similar. And please tell me I’m not the only one with the dream…lol! So, I looked down, and saw that I was wearing a black rubber flip-flop about 4 sizes too big on one foot (my husband’s house shoe), and one of my brown leather flip-flops on the other! I was SOOOOOO embarrassed that all I wanted to do was run in to a clothes rack and wait until someone brought me a pair of matching shoes.
I thought about making something up when the hubbs asked what was wrong after he heard my gasp. It just wasn’t possible that the woman who tries so hard to be super mom and wife could make a silly mistake like that. Instead, with blushing cheeks and eyes full of tears, I confessed my misfortune. He immediately looked down in shock, smiled and shook his head, and embraced me. He couldn’t have reacted any better given the situation. With that single long hug, I felt that he understood and appreciated how hard I try to make everything perfect for my him and my babies.
He brought a smile to my face, and I was able to keep the shoes on for the time it took us to get to the register and back home. I know it’s a silly story, and that the last part was sappy, but it is genuinely my most humiliating moment EVER, thanks to the exhaustion of mommyhood!
